Bone Marrow Transplant Fund for Cecil Scofield
On September 22, 2026, Cecil Scofield will receive the bone marrow transplant our family has been hoping and praying for.
Getting to this point has been a long journey.
In January 2025, Cecil was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) and Large Granular Lymphocytic (LGL) Leukemia. Since then, he has undergone treatment while our family waited, hoped, and prayed for the opportunity to move forward with a bone marrow transplant.
That opportunity has finally come.
Cecil has been approved for his transplant, and September 22 will mark the beginning of a new chapter in his fight.
Who Is Cecil?
To us, Cecil is so much more than a diagnosis.
Cecil is a loving and supportive husband and father. He is a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, a loyal friend, and someone his family can always count on.
He is retired and enjoys the simple things in life: Alabama football, camping, spending time with his family, and watching his 16-year-old son, Aiden, play football and soccer. Those Friday nights and weekends watching Aiden play mean the world to Cecil.
And those are exactly the kinds of moments we’re fighting to give him many more of.

374 Miles From Home
Our family lives in Panama City, Florida, but Cecil’s bone marrow transplant will be performed at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, approximately 374 miles from home.
Cecil will initially be hospitalized for his transplant and the critical period immediately following it.
Once he is discharged, he cannot simply return home. He will be required to remain in the Tampa area for approximately 100 days after discharge so his transplant team can monitor him closely.
During those 100 days, Cecil must have a caregiver with him 24 hours a day.
Altogether, we anticipate Cecil will need to remain in Tampa for approximately four months.
It Will Take Our Whole Family
Cecil’s oldest daughter, Amy, will take on the enormous responsibility of being his primary caregiver in Tampa.
She will be there to help Cecil through the difficult days following the transplant, get him to appointments, monitor him, and make sure he has the around-the-clock support his transplant team requires.
Cecil’s wife, Becky, will remain primarily in Panama City, where she will continue working full-time, raising their 16-year-old son Aiden, and maintaining their home and family responsibilities.
But Becky will also be traveling back and forth between Panama City and Tampa throughout Cecil’s recovery.
She plans to make the 374-mile trip to Tampa at least once a month to relieve Amy from caregiving duties, along with additional trips to spend time with and support Cecil.
Every trip between Panama City and Tampa is approximately 748 miles round trip.
For several months, our family will essentially be living in two different cities while doing everything possible to get Cecil safely through his transplant.
Why We’re Asking for Help
As difficult as it is to ask for financial help, the expenses associated with Cecil’s transplant and recovery are simply more than we can manage alone.
Our current estimated expenses include:
Temporary housing in Tampa: approximately $5,500 per month
Four months of housing: approximately $22,000
Transportation and travel expenses: approximately $4,000
Meals and food expenses: approximately $2,500
That means we are already expecting approximately $28,500 in expenses.
And that does not include parking, additional travel, maintaining our family’s home in Panama City, unexpected expenses, or the many trips that will be required during Cecil’s continued recovery.
For that reason, we have set our fundraising goal at $40,000.
Every dollar raised will be used to help our family get Cecil through his transplant and recovery, including housing near Moffitt, transportation, meals, travel for his caregivers and family, and continued trips to Tampa for follow-up care.
Day 100 Isn’t the Finish Line
Reaching Day 100 after Cecil’s transplant will be an incredible milestone, but it will not mean his journey is over.
Cecil’s total recovery is expected to take approximately 18 months.
Even after he is cleared to return home to Panama City, Cecil will still need to travel back to Tampa for continued follow-up care, testing, monitoring, and appointments with his transplant team.
Each one of those appointments means another 748-mile round trip.
Our $40,000 goal is intended not only to help us through the immediate transplant period, but also to give our family some breathing room for the long recovery that follows.

September 22: A New Beginning
For nearly two years, Cecil’s life has revolved around blood counts, treatments, appointments, uncertainty, and waiting.
But Cecil is still Cecil.
He’s still the man who loves Alabama football.
He’s still the man who would rather be camping.
He’s still the grandfather and great-grandfather who loves his family.
He’s still the proud dad who wants to be sitting in the stands watching Aiden play football and soccer.
And he’s still the husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend we all love so dearly.
September 22 isn’t just Cecil’s transplant date.
It’s the date we’re praying becomes the beginning of the rest of his life.
Our goal is to take as much of the financial worry off Cecil and our family as possible so that, for the next several months, we can concentrate on what truly matters:
Getting Cecil through his transplant. Getting him healthy. And getting him home.
